NUR 4002 Obstetrics and Newborn Care
The purpose of this course is focus on the bio-psycho-socio-cultural needs of the family during the phases of pregnancy, labor and delivery, childbirth, and the postpartum and neonatal period. The nurse’s role will be examined related to patient care, documentation, communication, ethics, culture, and the legal aspects of healthcare. System related disease processes will be examined with appropriate treatment plans and measurement of outcomes as they relate to the responsibilities of the learner and standards of nursing care. This course will concentrate on the nursing process in the assessment and management of the childbearing family utilizing critical thinking to promote sound clinical reasoning and systematic problem-solving. Essential care needs of the childbearing family during the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal periods will be evaluated and integrated into the teaching needs of the childbearing family and their plan of care.
